Remember back in February when the [interwebs](https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/02/report-google-considering-a-game-streaming-service-console-hardware/?ref=thenaijanerds.com) were all abuzz about the secret Google Yeti Gaming platform?

Word on the street, as first [reported](https://www.theinformation.com/articles/google-may-step-into-gaming-with-yeti-streaming-service?ref=thenaijanerds.com) by The Information was that Google was secretly building a streaming gaming platform that you could access from any device. This meant that even without expensive video game hardware, you could still play the best games since all the heavy lifting would be done in the cloud.

Basically imagine playing God of War III on Playstation Now without needing to use a console. Just grab your phone or open up a tab and enjoy! If it sounded too good to be true back then, that was mainly because Google has made big gaming moves before with no results.

But the rumors persisted. No thanks to moves like hiring [Phil Harrison](https://twitter.com/MrPhilHarrison/status/955512537398755329?ref=thenaijanerds.com), a guy who's spent almost 20 years working for both PlayStation and later for Xbox, and apparently quietly having meeting with developers and game studios at E3 this year. Something was clearly happening.

[Jason Schreier](https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1012433976357683201?ref=thenaijanerds.com)[ of Kotaku ](https://kotaku.com/sources-google-is-planning-a-game-platform-that-could-1827217387?ref=thenaijanerds.com)is reporting today that not only is Google moving forward with the 'Yeti' streaming platform, but that like the whale they are, Google is looking to make quite the splash by possibly buying up game studios.

---

*"We haven’t heard many specifics about Google’s video game plans, but what we have heard is that it’s a three-pronged approach: 1) Some sort of streaming platform, 2) some sort of hardware, and 3) an attempt to bring game developers under the Google umbrella, whether through aggressive recruiting or even major acquisitions. That’s the word from five people who have either been briefed on Google’s plans or heard about them secondhand."*

The report also mentions some of the insane rumors floating around about features the Yeti may have - seamless interaction with YouTube for one. Imagine getting stuck in a tough spot while playing Black Ops IV, instead of checking your phone for a guide to read or watch, you could press a button to activate an video walkthrough overlaid on your screen from YouTube.

That sort of functionality would be awesome but imagine the strain on your internet provider. It is going to be immense. But as the guys behind YouTube's massive video delivery platform, if anyone can pull it off, it's Google. This could be a great reason for you to get top notch internet though. If however you are one of the few fortunate enough to have Google Fiber (like me!) you must be thrilled at this news.
