Marvel casts David Jonsson as new Black Panther
The third film will follow a young son as he grows into the Black Panther mantle
Marvel has cast British actor David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, with the Industry and Alien: Romulus star set to play the adult son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in Black Panther 3.
Jonsson was introduced as the new Black Panther by director Ryan Coogler during Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con presentation in July. He will play T’Challa II, also known as Toussaint, who was introduced as a child in the closing moments of 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The third film will follow his son as he grows into the Black Panther mantle. Letitia Wright, who became the Black Panther as T’Challa’s sister Shuri in Wakanda Forever, will also return alongside Winston Duke as M’Baku.
Coogler is returning to direct and co-write the third film, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 15, 2028. Denzel Washington is also joining the cast in a role written specifically for him by Coogler.
Jonsson is known for Industry, Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk, and won the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2025.
