My thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077

It's a stunning dystopian open-world game like nothing I've seen before

My thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077

Oh my, where should I start with this one. I had been hearing a lot about Cyberpunk 2077 weeks ahead of its release and although the game had a disastrous launch, CD Projekt Red didn't waste time to solve the many bugs that came with the initial launch and it didn't take long for the game to become quite the keeper for many.

I think that Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that was released just at the right time. And by the right time I mean it's an open-world game that tries to be everything Grand Theft Auto isn't and it succeeds in some areas. Now while I'm not going to go into an in-depth comparison between the two games, we all can agree that if you're looking for an excellent open-world game to play while waiting for GTA 6, then Cyberpunk 2077 is sort of the best place to start.

Remember I said the game succeeds in some areas that GTA doesn't or rather hasn't yet? Let me break this down. For one, Cyberpunk doesn't really hold back when it comes to age restrictions. The game is made for ages 18 and up and even before you start playing the game you'll know exactly why. It's the only game I've seen where you can pretty much see your character's complete body with their uncensored genitals and you get to choose what's down there and the size you prefer.

That aside, I think the developers did a fine job with the game's customisation features and in case I haven't said this already, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most stunning open-world games I've ever played. Now there's things about this game that differentiates it from other open-world games such as the gameplay style which includes both first and third-person features.

I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure CD Projekt Red designed the game to be best enjoyed in first-person. When you're on foot, you can only use first-person but when you're driving a car or a bike, you can switch from either first-person or third-person view. Third-person view looks way better for me as it makes the entire experience more immersive. I don't think I've played an open-world game where I enjoy driving cars as I do in this game, and that's saying a lot because I'm not even a big fan of first-person driving but it feels good here.

Up next is the graphics. I know I've already said it's a stunning game but there's something very impressive about how the developers built out the game's dystopian world in such that you could tell that Night City is a messed up town with criminals and all sorts of people but it's also got this inherent beauty that makes you go “what game have I seen this before? Or right, I haven't!" Some people don't don't pay attention to a game's graphics but some do, and I belong to the latter. I love my games to look as realistic as they can and Cyberpunk checked that box for me.

Now for the game's story, I thought it was pretty interesting. I think that there's other open world games out there that have provided much more interesting side quests than what I experienced with this but the game's mainline story missions were pretty darn good and riveting for the most part. In my Days Gone Review I hoped the campaign in the zombie apocalyptic game could've been shorter but in the case of Cyberpunk 2077, I hoped the Campaign could've been longer but it wasn't.

So I guess that's why they've released the Phantom Liberty expansion which frankly I haven't played yet but didn't want to wait until I did before putting out this review. But I will get my hands on the DLC and I'll consider updating this review with my thoughts on it.

On that note, I think Cyberpunk 2077 is a crazy and decent game and the best thing about this game for me is that there aren't many games like it out there. It does quite a few things differently unlike other open-world games and frankly Night City is stunning, it's one of the most beautiful games I've seen. And of course if you're a fan of Keanu Reeves, then you'll have your money's worth with this one.

From the autonomy that comes with character customisation all the way to the game's story and gameplay, I think Cyberpunk is a fine game for those who want to experience something futuristic and dystopian.
