My thoughts on Days Gone
I think it might be the best zombie apocalyptic open-world game
The first time I played Days Gone was on my PC but the experience wasn't a good one because I couldn't run the game at the highest graphics settings and pretty much had to tone it all down to low graphics settings.
So I took a break and when I played it on the PS5 a couple months later, I think I would put it amongst the top 10 open-world games I've played. Now that's not because Days Gone is such a GREAT game, not really. However, the amount of detail and realism that went into capturing a proper apocalyptic and dystopian world is excellent in this game.

Frankly I think only The Last of Us has had such a decent detail and that's not even an open-world game, so Days Done still has the upper hand in that area. Other than that, I think Days Gone is one of the most beautiful games out there and the protagonist Deacon St John is a likeable character that I enjoyed using throughout the game.
Days Gone proves that perhaps we need more zombie apocalyptic games out there that focus more on story but still give us a proper open-world experience. Days Gone gave me a fantastic open-world experience but the game's story is a bit lacklustre for me. I felt like things went on longer than they should and the story didn't have to be as long as it was because you could easily get bored of driving around on a bike especially when you're yet to unlock the fast travel routes in the game.

So the game's story didn't really cut it for me. I felt it should've been shorter but it was still better than Horizon Forbidden World's story in my opinion because regardless of how boring an open-world game gets, there's always something you can do to keep you entertained and in Days Gone, it was blowing up hordes of zombies and trying not to get your brains eaten.

Days Gone won me over with its surreal graphics, expansive open-world and simplistic gameplay. However, the game falls a bit short with its story which started off pretty great but simply went on for far too long. And while I appreciate a great story in games, some stories just aren't very interesting to go on for too long and that's when you find yourself skipping a cutscene most of the time and I did that a lot with Days Gone after a while.

Currently I don't think there's a game like it out there and I'm not sad there's not going to be a sequel because it doesn't really need one. However, I do hope we get another zombie apocalyptic game that takes a couple of things from this game and makes it better but for now, I think Days Gone is the only zombie apocalyptic game that's worth your time.
