The Batman Part II pauses production as Matt Reeves steps away

Warner Bros. and DC Studios paused production on The Batman Part II on Monday after director Matt Reeves stepped away to focus on a family matter.

The studios described the pause as temporary and said Reeves has their full support. No details about the family matter have been shared. Filming began in London in June.

The film is dated for February 18, 2028. Sources told Deadline it is too early to say whether the stoppage will affect that date. The sequel has already been delayed several times since Reeves' 2022 original, which grossed $770.3 million worldwide.

Cast and script remain in place

Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne, alongside Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Jayme Lawson are also in the cast, and Brian Tyree Henry has been reported as joining.

Its start date was pushed back multiple times while Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin wrote the script. Pattinson told Deadline in July that the script is extraordinary and the film will feel very different from the first. Farrell has also praised Reeves' work on the script.
