Korg in Thor: Ragnarok

---

Taika Waititi - the director of Thor Ragnarok - can be counted on for a hilarious interview. The internet is chock-full of videos and images of him mugging for the camera in a variety of settings. (side-note: there's also a surprising number of pictures of Taika [sleeping](https://mashable.com/2018/02/26/taika-waititi-nap-pics/?ref=thenaijanerds.com#taGIRzPaZOqj) wherever he finds a cozy spot).

In an interview with Australian comedian Adam Hills and the guys on **The Last Leg**, Waititi - who gave the motion-capture performance and voice for Korg in **Thor Ragnarok**\- explains that he was inspired by the accent of the giant, Polynesian bouncers at nightclubs around New Zealand who effect a soft-spoken tone when talking that is at odds with their hulking stature.

"In New Zealand we have a lot of giant, hulking bouncers and that's their accent, dudes with very delicate souls," Waititi explained. "It's very intimidating when you try to get into a nightclub... and it's hard to decide what to do in that situation. Do you pick a fight with them? Because the voice betrays who they are. They end up breaking a lot of legs."
